Shipping
will add additional cost to your equipment repair.
We realize this
and have adjusted our labor rates accordingly to compensate.
Thus even after
figuring in the added expense for shipping, you should still be able to
enjoy
a savings over using a local electronics shop to perform your repair
&
service.
But we ask you this question....
Do you really want an electronics shop that is used to fixing TVs &
VCRs & Tosters to work on your Hi-FI Electronics or DJ / Studio
Gear?
OK , now that you have made the decision to send your Professional
Equipment to a Professional, here are some tips to help you with the
Safe Packaging, Shipping Cost,
and Shipping Details.
>Section One
What exactly will you need to
send in?
If
you
have
a
TECHNICS SL-1200 / SL-1210
Turntable
System
please Go to the Technics 1200/1210
Shipping Page
otherwise please read on
...
This is an important
question
because we will need all the proper elements to not only recreate
a
problem, but also to test the repairs to your equipment.
Only send in your Cartridge / Stylus with your
Turntable, and always include any power cord or power supply.
Also ,some equipment can be put on a diet and shipping weight reduced
while
still including all necessary components needed to make a complete
Repair
Evaluation and Final Test.
Shipping
Weight
is
the
biggest contributor to overall shipping cost, so our goal
is to reduce weight in order to save you $ and make it possible for you
to affordably get your equipment serviced, while at the same time
giving our repair shop
all the items needed for a proper diagnosis and repair.
If you have any questions concerning what exactly will need to be sent,

Packaging your Equipment for its Journey to our shop.
Use the original box and Styrofoam inserts if you have them!!
The main idea behind safe equipment packing is that we DO NOT want any
movement
or shifting inside the box ... this is the main reason for equipment
damage.
When sending a Turntable, please use the following guidelines:
Step One:
If there's a
dust cover, remove it and store it away safely.
Please Do Not send in the dustcover....it is too FRAGILE!!!
DO NOT SEND THE DUST COVER !!!
If there's an overhang arm,
position it up over the tonearm
Remove the
counterweight, headshell, & spindles if it is possible to do so
Place these "loose"items in a
separate smaller box which you will later place in the larger box.
Clip the tonearm to the rest,
secure it with masking tape or a twist tie.
For multi-play changers put
cardboard "shims" under the front and rear edge of the platter
For
most
single
play
turntables remove the platter and mat, pad them and
insert
under the turntable
If the platter
doesn't lift off or come off by tapping the center
spindle lightly while exerting
upward pressure on it then just leave it in place
Obtain a peice of Styrofoam and place it under the
tonearm - VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Next, take a twist tie and secure the Tonearm
Assembly
If equipped,
use
the transit screws to secure the unit to the base.
This step only applies
to most record changers.
If you don't see big screws on the
chassis of the
unit, skip the step.
Many units do NOT have them, and most single play turntables
do not, either.
Finally , wrap up all loose cords together and secure
them with a zip tie or a twist tie.
If
you are sending a mixer or CD player then you simply wrap the unit with
bubble wrap
at
least 2 complete revolutions and insert into an appropriate box.
The equipment should
be as snug as possible inside the box to prevent any damage.
Step Two:
Put the whole
unit in a big enough plastic bag to cover it
completely
(You don't want ANY tape to contact the actual machine)
Get a small box for the small accessories. Any small box will do as it
will be on the inside.
Insert all the small accessories in the box,
including
the dust cover hinges. Wrap each accessory in a small piece of bubble
wrap,
a paper towel, or toilet paper and cushion the inside of the box with
some
of the same padding so it will not crush.
Center the box on the platter, and wrap tape tightly around the unit (
use
2" Cellophane Packing Tape and tape it tightly , holding the box firmly
in
place to the turntable platter and helping to hold the platter to the
chassis,
and the chassis to the turntable base.
Placing the smaller box on the platter now makes it the high point of
the
unit ... should the unit be placed upside-down at any point in its
journey
during handling ( and it will ! ) , that smaller acessory box will
support
and protect the main unit from potential damage ... saving the tonearm
!!!
Use BIG Bubble Wrap to protect the unit on all sides,
top as well as bottom.
Start the wrap at one end of the unit and wrap it several times ( at
least
2 complete revolutions) around the entire macnine and secure the
bubble
wrap with packing tape.
Step Three:
Get a box with dimension that are close to the
size of the unit, or as close to this as you can get.
Sources for boxes are U-Haul or Ryder moving stores, as well as, UPS
Packaging stores, Post Office, Office
Depot, Office
Max......etc.
Step Four:
Place some sort of padding in the bottom of the box
... this can be wadded up newspaper, or foam.
Place
the bubble-wrapped equipment into the box.
Fill in any space along the sides
with wadded up newspaper.
If you want you can put more newspaper at the top
and bottom, also its a great idea to double up the top cardboard or use
foam padding on the top.
Then take a razor blade and slice down the corners to allow the
top flaps to fit snugly closed. The main point is that we DO NOT want
the unit to be able to move loosely inside the box.

Shipping Services and Shipping Cost
There are several
reputable and reliable shipping services out there - UPS,
USPS, FEDEX
There are some unreliable ones out there as well. If you want to know
who, call us.
We use United Parcel Service
for standard ground service it ususally takes 3 - 7 days depending on
where
you are located in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The main reason is
that it is convienient and easy to work with them.
They have only damaged 1 turntable sent to us, and it was very minor
damage to the tonearm rest.
They automatically insure your parcel for $100 value, and it is only $1
more per $100 of coverage.
We reccommend the you insure your parcel for what it is worth ... but
its up to you.
If you use the UPS Shipping
Calculator you can determine an estimate of shipping cost for a
parcel based on several factors including weight, box size, and zip
code.
You should enter:
Denton for the destination city.
76201 for the destination Zip Code
Yes for
the Residential Address Question
Now, If shipping time is important to you then we recommend using US
Mail Service.
United States Postal
Service
USPS has their "Priority Mail"
service which is $5 more and is a 2 - 3 day service.
Shipping insurance is not
included, but
is available as well as delivery confirmation service.
